Here's a simple recipe for classic chicken biryani:


Ingredients:


- 1 cup basmati rice

- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs

- 2 medium onions, chopped

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 teaspoon ground cumin

- 1 teaspoon ground coriander

- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

- 2 cups water

- Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)


Instructions:


1. Rinse rice and soak for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.

2. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add onions and cook until softened (5 minutes).

3. Add garlic, cumin, coriander, turmeric, chili powder, and salt. Cook for 1 minute.

4. Add chicken and cook until browned (5-6 minutes).

5. Add 1 cup water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.

6. In a separate pot, bring 1 1/2 cups water to a boil. Add rice and cook until 75% done (5-7 minutes). Drain excess water.

7. In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven, create a layer of chicken mixture, followed by a layer of rice. Repeat until all ingredients are used, ending with a rice layer.

8. Cover and cook over low heat for 10-15 minutes or until rice is cooked and fluffy.

9. Garnish with chopped cilantro (if desired). Serve hot and enjoy!
