Here's a recipe for red velvet cake ¹:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2-4 tsp natural unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
For the cream cheese frosting:
- 16 oz cream cheese, room temperature
- 3/4 cup butter, room temperature
2. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl and set aside.
3. Beat the butter, vegetable oil, sugar and vanilla extract in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
4. Add the eggs two at a time, mixing until well combined.
7. Bake the cakes for 20-25 minutes and let them cool.
8. Beat the cream cheese and butter in a large bowl until smooth.
9. Add half of the powdered sugar and mix until smooth, then add the vanilla extract.
10. Add the remaining powdered sugar and mix until smooth.
